In my last BLOG from May 10th, 2016, I mentioned part of my family tradition, which included Printing as well as Editing. I was surprised and extremly interested when I recently visited the Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp. Indeed Christoph Plantin (ca. 1520-1589 who founded his own printshop in 1555) and his son-in-law Jan Moretus (1543-1610) were a revolutionary printing and editing duo, „the first printers on an industrial scale – the Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg of their day“, to quote the Museum. One can experience 300 years hard and soft ware of printing. The oldest printing presses in the world give an impression of a time when printing and editing were the center of innovation, a Silicon Valley of the 16th Century.
I wonder if my grand-grand-grand-parents who practised the printing business in Verviers (about 77 miles from Antwerp) knew anything about this printing and editing house?
